🍅 La Tomatina: from street fights to your fries
The world’s largest food fight was cancelled, and Heinz bottled it.
🎯 Spain’s annual tomato throwing festival was cancelled this year. Instead, Heinz Ketchup bought tomatoes from the local farmers, supporting the local community, and turned them into a limited edition, with a squashed tomato label.
🛄 La Tomatina started in 1945 in Buñol, Spain, and receives annually more than 30,000 tourists that throw each other more than 150 tons of tomatoes. It is now a Festival of Interest to International Tourists.
Apart from its success, some questions have been raised about La Tomatina being a waste of food. However, most of the tomatoes used during the event are rotten.
And, while you order your fries, remember: Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad!
